A Note About Textbooks

The President’s Associates have granted funding to provide a limited amount of book loans to students who are financially unable to purchase a required textbook for their class. Applications are available only at ST-17(near the Student Services Building). Students will need to fill out the application completely and have either their professor OR counselor sign it and turn it back in to the office. At this time, due to overwhelming demand, only one textbook per student will be loaned out this semester.

Additionally, the Associates have provided funding to the Library to purchase many of the core textbooks for students to use at the Library to complete their homework. The books must be used at the Library and cannot be taken home. Currently there are about 200 textbooks available at the library.

Students who take classes at the Escondido Center can check with library there. They have purchased textbooks with funding from the President's Associates again this year.

President's Associates Fund Textbooks for Library

The San Marcos Campus Library and the Escondido Center Library have added over 150 textbooks to its Reserve section thanks to a grant by the President's Associates. The first two weeks of the spring semester have been spent adding these textbooks to those that the instructors have given to be placed in the Library.

Students may use the textbooks while they study in the Library. If the program goes well, the associates will continue to grant funds for book purchases so that the reserve section will have a significant number of textbooks for students.

Updated Resources on The Environment and Sustainable Living

We have had some very thought-provoking presentations on the Campus Explorations theme of The Environment and Sustainable Living: Global Crises and Solutions. If you have the opportunity, please join us each Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. in Room P-32.

In support of these presentations, the Library has updated its research page with links to new articles, websites and other material on this subject. These resources are useful for faculty, students and staff. Anyone interested in preserving our environment and saving our planet will find something of interest here.

Campus Explorations @ The Library: Am I really saving the planet? It’s your right to know!

In support of the College’s general education curriculum, the library is now offering instructional sessions that focus on the Campus Explorations theme, the Environment and Sustainable Living: Global Crises and Solutions. Instructors, student groups and others are encouraged to come to the library for a discussion on the conflicting research and news reports regarding the environment and sustainable living. For example, hybrid cars are the rave, but some sources say the cost of the production is not worth the benefit of driving one. Discussion on conflicting sources of information will be followed by instruction on how to find and evaluate information about the environment and sustainable living. If we believe it’s our responsibility to save the earth, it’s also our right and responsibility to be informed about how to save it.

If the library does not own the books or articles you need, it may be possible to get them from another library. To request books use our online request form or for periodicals/journals use this form. Interlibrary request forms are also available at San Marcos from the Reference and Circulation Desks, and at the Escondido Center Library.
